Odaily News The Treasury Department said personnel Musk assigned to the agency’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) had “read-only” access to its sensitive $5 trillion payments system and that no payments had been suspended or rejected as part of the ongoing review.
Treasury officials provided the information in a letter to lawmakers that provided the first substantive detailing of the role that Department of Government Efficiency staff assigned to the agency play in Bureau of Fiscal Services operations.
“The ongoing review of Treasury’s systems will not result in the suspension or rejection of any payment instructions submitted to Treasury by other federal agencies of the government,” an unnamed official said in the letter Tuesday evening. “In particular, the Treasury’s review has not resulted in the delay or modification of payments for obligations such as Social Security and Medicare.”
The letter marks the first time the Treasury Department has publicly acknowledged and explained the role held by Tom Krause, CEO of Cloud Software Group, which has ties to DOGE. In recent weeks, Krause has been described as a central operative with ties to DOGE, driving efforts to secure access to the payment system and ultimately gaining access granted by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The letter states that Krause is now a Treasury employee with "read-only access to the Fiscal Services Payment System's coded data to continue this operational efficiency assessment." (CNN)
