He was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended for four years, according to a ruling by the Tokyo District Court. Prosecutors had requested a four-year prison sentence. This may be the first time someone in Japan has been convicted of abusing generative artificial intelligence. According to the verdict and other sources, around March 31, 2023, Ryuki Hayashi created a ransomware-like virus using computers and smartphones at his home in Kawasaki.
