Vitalik: “Reducing L1 slot time” is worth discussing, but it needs to be done carefully to avoid hurting independent stakers

Odaily News David Hoffman, founder of Bankless, wrote on X that, in a sense, the rollup-centric roadmap has been "completed". The current progress includes the launch of 4844, DA, and cheap L2. The primary optimization focus in the future will be L1. Vitalik Buterin responded by saying, "I don't think it's a priority question. The next step for DA is peerdas, and the people working on that are almost completely disconnected from those working on SSF or EVM execution improvements. I do think that 'the rollup-centric roadmap is complete' is a premature declaration of victory. We are only 1.3x usage peak away from full blobs (= 21,600 blobs/day). We need to launch peerdas and start scaling safely in parallel with L1 improvements." Hoffman continued, "If we increase L1 blocktimes, won't that also increase the supply of blobspace? Focusing on L1 feels synergistic with focusing on L1 and L2 at the same time, while focusing on DA is only good for L2." Vitalik explained, "If we reduce slot times without changing other variables, then the answer is yes. But the limits of both are determined by bandwidth limits, so if we are happy with today's gas/blob limits, then we will also increase gas/blobspace. So I generally think bandwidth and latency are two separate issues. I do think reducing L1 slot time is worth discussing, although this needs to be done carefully to avoid ‘killing’ independent stakers, even geographically dispersed stakers.”
