Oman: Vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz may be required to pay fees
Odaily Planet Daily News According to sources, Oman has informed European officials that the Strait of Hormuz cannot return to its pre-war state, and transiting vessels may be required to pay certain fees. Sources stated that Omani officials said they will always comply with international maritime law, but added that fees may arise in connection with services such as strait pollution cleanup or vessel navigation. It is currently unclear whether Oman has indicated that all such fees are mandatory.
Sources said Oman is analyzing the fee systems used at various global chokepoints, including the Strait of Malacca in Asia—where there is currently no mandatory shipping fee. Meanwhile, the United States, Europe, and Oman's Gulf neighbors are increasingly concerned that Oman may establish a fee system for the Strait of Hormuz jointly with Iran. (Jin Shi)
