美联储威廉姆斯:预计通胀将放缓,若情况未实现美联储将采取行动

2026-08-03 10:16

The Federal Reserve's Williams stated that he remains optimistic that inflationary pressures will gradually ease, but if that does not materialize, the Fed will not hesitate to raise interest rates to ensure price pressures return to target levels.

In an interview with Reuters last Friday, Williams said that if energy prices and trade tariffs have peaked and the economy maintains solid momentum, "some of the major factors that have been pushing inflation higher over the past year and a half or so" will no longer play as significant a role, and "the forces driving inflation down that we observed earlier" should re-emerge. He added: "I am paying very close attention to changes in core inflation data over the coming months, watching whether this aligns with a trend of inflation moving toward 2% and continuing to decline, so as to ensure we can achieve the long-term stable 2% inflation target by 2028."

He also said: "My personal forecast is that inflation will decline in the second half of this year and fall further next year." Williams reiterated that the current stance of interest rate policy is "in a good position" to bring inflation back to target levels. However, he noted: "If we are not on track to bring inflation down to 2%... then it is entirely appropriate to take action to get us back on the path to 2% inflation." (Jin Shi)
