Argentine judge orders freezing of Libra-related wallets, involving $8.2 million in funds

2026-07-17 07:32

Odaily reported that Argentine Federal Judge Marcelo Martinez has ordered the identification and freezing of a group of wallets linked to Libra, following a tracing of fund flows across multiple crypto networks by the Cybercrime Technical Division of the Federal Police since May. The investigation involves eight wallets labeled "Libra team," which are directly associated with the token issuance.

According to the report, four of these wallets consolidated nearly $57 million into a single address, which was previously frozen by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and subsequently unfrozen. On May 10, nearly $500,000 of the related funds were transferred to a Tron address via an interoperability protocol. Among the 17 transfers, at least 10 passed through Binance, while eight wallets were linked to Bybit, two to OKX, and two to Bitfinex.

Some users involved in the $8.2 million may be identified through the KYC rules of centralized exchanges. The remaining funds are currently managed by Libra Trust, which plans to distribute them as grants to Argentine companies by November. There are currently 71 applications pending approval.
