Oman's Foreign Minister: Does not support tolls for the Strait of Hormuz

Badr stated that Oman is always committed to ensuring a safe, peaceful, and free navigational environment for all parties in the Strait of Hormuz. He pointed out that Oman and Iran have reached a consensus in existing dialogues, and any future arrangements involving the Strait of Hormuz must be conducted within the framework of international law.
Regarding the issue of transit fees that has drawn external attention, Badr stated that Oman does not support levying tolls on ships passing through, but he did not rule out the possibility of discussing mechanisms related to maritime services. Badr said that issues such as enhancing navigational safety, improving maritime accident emergency response capabilities, and preventing marine pollution could be discussed, drawing on practices from other straits. He added that such arrangements would be formulated in consultation with countries and shipping companies that use the Strait of Hormuz waterway, with the aim of improving maritime services and ensuring navigational safety, rather than adding new burdens to global trade.
