US media: Trump tightens terms of Iran agreement, amendments submitted to Iran
Odaily Planet Daily News According to the New York Times, three officials revealed that US President Donald Trump has tightened the terms of the potential framework agreement aimed at ending the war in Iran and sent these amendments back to Iran for consideration. It is currently unclear what specific changes Trump has made to the text of the agreement.
Two officials said Trump is concerned about the part of the potential agreement involving the unfreezing of Iranian funds. He has been sharply critical of the previous agreement signed by former President Obama more than a decade ago to curb Iran's nuclear program, which took the same approach. One official said Trump is also frustrated by Iran's slow response to US proposals. These proposals were formed through repeated consultations involving intermediaries, including Pakistan.
The official added that Trump's proposed amendments—namely a stricter new proposal—may be intended to accelerate the process by putting pressure on Iran, urging it to accept the framework agreement that has been sent to its Supreme Leader, Mujtaba, for approval. (Jin Shi)
