US Treasury Secretary Bessent Warns Oman Against Participating in Hormuz Strait Toll Mechanism
The US Treasury Secretary Bessent warned Oman on Thursday against participating in the toll mechanism that Iran has threatened to impose in the Strait of Hormuz. Bessent wrote: "The US government will not tolerate any attempt to forcibly implement a toll mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz. Oman, in particular, should understand that the US Treasury will harshly sanction any entity or individual—whether directly or indirectly—that assists in the toll collection in the strait; any partner willing to act as its accomplice will be punished."
Furthermore, the Treasury Secretary called on all countries to resist Iran's moves aimed at disrupting traffic through this critical shipping lane. He concluded: "The days of Tehran intimidating the region and the world are over." (Jin Shi)
