Bloomberg Analyst: SK Hynix ETF Trading Activity Extremely Unusual, AUM Surges 10x This Year
Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas stated on X that the 2x leveraged SK Hynix ETF (7709) in the Hong Kong market has seen its asset size grow approximately 10 times this year, becoming the third-largest ETF in Hong Kong, accounting for about 8.5% of total ETF assets. The ETF also records extremely high trading activity, with daily turnover exceeding $1 billion. On a scale equivalent to the US market, this corresponds to a daily trading volume of approximately $150 billion, considered extremely rare in the global ETF market.
Eric Balchunas specifically noted that if proportionally scaled, this ETF would be equivalent to an ETF of roughly $1.3 trillion in the US market, but a product of such magnitude does not exist globally.
Market observers believe this phenomenon reflects the rapidly increasing concentration of capital in Hong Kong's derivative ETFs and single-stock leveraged products, while also highlighting the continuously growing activity of Asian markets in high-risk structured ETF trading.
