Former Farcaster founder and Tempo team member Dan Romero: Tempo may achieve decentralization within 2 years, Asian market lead already in place

2026-05-23 04:28

Odaily星球日报讯 Recently, former ChainNews founder Liu Feng and former Farcaster founder and Tempo team member Dan Romero engaged in a series of discussions on topics including payments, cryptocurrency, and AI Agents. During the conversation, Dan Romero addressed several questions raised by the public and Liu Feng, with the key points as follows:

1. On the shift from idealistic socialfi products to public chains dominated by large enterprises: "The crypto world has changed; now there are stablecoins and crypto (more native) as two distinct things." Tempo and Playbook's goal is: "Start with the payments business, collaborate with large, established companies to help them conduct on-chain payments and drive their own business development. Then, by integrating DeFi applications, launch yield-generating products that end users actually need."

2. "Tempo doesn't have Meme coins or anything similar, which is a good thing for a conservative bank. Tempo has other features: compliance, privacy. For crypto natives, this might not be as exciting. For banks, it's very attractive."

3. On the core use cases for payments: "Platform-based marketplaces and cross-border payments are two clear use cases for stablecoins."

4. Micropayment-driven agent-to-agent payments are worth looking forward to; stablecoin-based micropayments will usher in a new spring: payments between agents, "Traditional payment methods are too costly for large-scale implementation. This level of granularity and speed can only be achieved through cryptocurrency and streaming payments."

5. "I deeply respect Ethereum's cypherpunk approach to decentralization and really like their new mission. It's good for the world. But the reality is, enterprises don't care about that; they care about whether it can actually solve real-world problems." "If Tempo can attract 1 million businesses and 1 billion consumers, that won't be a bad thing for either cryptocurrency or Ethereum."

6.Tempo's decentralization process: Hoping to achieve it within two years. "We're not a bunch of suits who are clueless; we truly understand the space. We know how important decentralization is, but at the same time, we are very pragmatic. I guarantee that we will actually get applications off the ground."

7. Regarding the Machine Payment Protocol (MPP) versus the X402 protocol, AI Agents don't care about the difference between the two. The key to satisfying them lies in eliminating the need for human intervention.

8.Tempo's Asian market lead is already in place and will be operating out of Singapore.
