US media: Iran implements new rules for the Strait of Hormuz, requiring vessels to declare to the "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" before transit
According to Odaily Planet Daily, CNN reports that a document shows Iran has formulated a set of new rules for vessels wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, ignoring U.S. warnings and continuing its efforts to institutionalize control over the waterway. The document, titled "Vessel Information Declaration," was issued by Iran's newly established "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" (PGSA) and must be filled out by all transiting vessels to ensure safe passage. The PGSA document contains over 40 questions, requiring vessels to declare their name, identification number, former name, country of origin, and destination. It also requires declaring the nationality information of the registered owner, operator, and crew, as well as providing cargo details. The above information must be submitted via email before transiting the strait. A PGSA email states, "Complete and accurate information is crucial for processing vessel transit applications" and "the applicant shall bear all consequences arising from any erroneous or incomplete information provided." It is currently unclear whether any shipping companies have applied to PGSA for transit permits. Analysts point out that this move could expose shipping companies to the risk of U.S. sanctions.
