US stocks and cryptocurrencies are the two major asset classes that have garnered the most attention from global investors. How does one build an investment system from scratch? How can you stay calm when market sentiment is euphoric, and act decisively when the market is in a downturn?

Today, we have invited Nico投资有道 @tychozzz . He describes himself as a "programmer who loves investing." After starting his career, he realized the importance of investing and delved deep into US stocks and cryptocurrencies. Now, he shares investment insights and educational content on X and YouTube, focusing on guiding beginners from zero to one in the world of US stocks and crypto.

From Programmer to Investor: AI Makes Investing Simpler

A computer science graduate, Nico became a programmer after college. But after working, he increasingly realized one thing: relying solely on a salary is far from enough for wealth growth. So he began researching investments, particularly US stocks and cryptocurrencies.

Initially, programming and investing were on parallel tracks. "In 2023 and 2024, programming didn't have a direct use for investing," he said. However, the explosion of AI over the past year or two has caused these two areas to naturally converge.

"Now, you need to write code to configure and customize AI tools. Using AI to assist with US stock investing is a natural progression for a programmer." In his daily workflow, AI handles a significant amount of information processing – checking financial reports, looking at technical indicators, and summarizing daily developments in crypto and global financial markets. "In half an hour, I can know what's happening globally. That's the biggest help from AI."

His computer science background also sparked an idea: to build his own website. "I always wanted to have my own website, so I combined programming and financial content creation to build an investment navigation site. It aggregates my previous articles and is quite useful for beginners."

The Aha Moment: From Altcoin Lessons to "Less is More" in US Stock Investing

What truly shifted Nico's investment thinking was a detour in the crypto space.

When he first got into crypto, like many newcomers, he wanted to buy every altcoin he saw. "Back then, I thought every altcoin had the potential to 10x or 100x, so I bought a little bit of the leader in every sector. The result was that in a broad market downturn, most altcoins plummeted. I realized I had bought too much; I couldn't keep track of them all, and it was hard to make significant profits."

This lesson directly influenced how he later approached US stocks. "I won't buy so many stocks anymore. I might just buy a few that I've researched, know what they do, and have some conviction in. Holding a handful is fine; ten is already a lot."

In his channel, Nico repeatedly emphasizes a phrase: "Less is more."

"Just focus on the stocks you know best. For example, my favorites are NVIDIA, Tesla, Google, and the Magnificent Seven – these are the ones I find have the highest certainty. I only focus on these, research them thoroughly – when to buy, when to sell, how high their growth potential is. Once you've done the research, everything is under control. Investing feels more secure, and ironically, it can lead to better returns."

Aligning Knowledge and Action: Waiting is Also an Operation

From December 2025 to March 2026, Nico made almost no trades.

This wasn't because he saw no opportunities, but because he was adhering to his investment discipline. "Whenever I feel the urge to buy, I think back to why I didn't buy before, and why I need to wait. Combined with the current market sentiment and trends, I can then tell if my thinking is correct."

He describes this state as "integrating knowledge and action." "What you think in your mind and what you actually do must be aligned. Otherwise, in the market, if you don't act in accordance with your knowledge, the market will eventually teach you a hard lesson."

During this waiting period, US stocks were in a consolidation pattern. He admits that there are always some speculative stocks that surge several times over; missing those opportunities is fine. But for stocks he truly believes in, missing the entry point can be a bit painful – however, this didn't happen between December 2025 and March 2026. Waiting, in itself, is a form of action.

The S&P 200-Day Moving Average and Pyramid Scaling: Turning Uncertainty into Executable Strategy

Nico has a specific, actionable buying strategy centered around two concepts: the 200-day moving average and pyramid scaling.

"The 200-day moving average is like a bottom-fishing signal. In the past few years, the S&P 500 has found strong support at its 200-day moving average. Buying at this level means limited downside risk." He doesn't believe in predicting market movements and doesn't aim to buy at the absolute bottom or sell at the absolute top. "Many people wait for a massive crash, waiting for the S&P or Nasdaq to halve before buying. I wouldn't recommend investing with that mindset."

Near the 200-day moving average, he employs a pyramid scaling strategy. "I preset a maximum drawdown, say 25%. Starting from the 200-day moving average downwards, I buy in 4 to 5 tranches. The more it drops, the more I buy."

But this strategy has one prerequisite: holding sufficient cash reserves. "If you keep adding positions when the S&P is high, you might not have enough cash when it truly falls, and you'll just watch it drop. So when the market is good and sentiment is high, you need to be even more cautious and keep more dry powder." Previously, he had taken profits on some of his Google and Tesla positions when they rallied significantly, reserving room for the next opportunity.

Why Choose to Trade US Stocks on Bitget

When discussing Bitget's US stock feature, Nico was direct in his assessment.

"The biggest advantage is the low barrier to entry. You don't need proof of address, proof of income, or any of those documents. Depositing funds is also very convenient, without the cumbersome deposit and withdrawal process of traditional banks."

For many crypto users, the complex process and high entry requirements for opening a traditional brokerage account can be daunting. By offering US stock tokens, Bitget provides retail investors with a new channel to access US stocks, allowing users to gain exposure to US stock returns without needing to open an overseas securities account.

"This is one of the easiest channels for retail investors to access US stock investing." he said.

Nico's Q&A: Holdings, Pitfalls, and Advice for Beginners

Can you share your current holdings?

I hold positions in all the Magnificent Seven except for Apple. In the semiconductor sector, I hold AMD. In early March this year, I also opened positions in three new stocks: PLTR, which I believe is a very strong stock in the AI application layer; Robinhood, which is essentially a brokerage but is aggressively moving into crypto, tokenized stocks, and prediction markets – I'm very optimistic about its transformation; and Micron, in the memory and storage sector, benefiting from the sustained AI demand for computing infrastructure.

What pitfalls have you encountered in US stock trading?

The most typical was the mistake I made with the Circle stock. When Circle had its IPO in July/August, everyone was FOMOing, and the stock price shot up very high. My mistake was building my position too early, entering around $180, resulting in significant unrealized losses. The stock itself is good, but the timing of the entry was poor, leading to bad returns or even losses. It was a poor investment strategy.

So, timing your entry is critical.

What advice do you have for young people with limited capital who want to get into US stocks?

My advice is to first invest in yourself. Focus on your main job, or take on side hustles to create a second income stream. If you don't have enough cash, it's best to prioritize your primary career first. When you have a stable monthly income and can allocate a portion to investing, you'll feel much more at ease. But if you try to trade with insufficient capital, your mindset is likely to suffer. You might go all-in, hoping for a big win, and easily lose everything. That's not a healthy way to build wealth.

Once you have sufficient capital, you can start with lower-risk assets, like S&P 500 or Nasdaq index funds. Then, expand to large-cap, predictable, and widely-recognized assets like the Magnificent Seven. After that, you can explore sectors you are genuinely familiar with.

For example, since I'm a programmer, I focus on AI. I pay attention to the user experience of different AI products and then research the companies behind them. The products you actually use and experience are often the best investment areas for your judgment. You know the things you use best. Being a consumer or user, combined with real-life experience, allows you to research the underlying investment and business logic – and what you find is often closer to the market reality itself.
