Coldcard: Current firmware does not cause permanent bricking of devices
2026-08-04 14:52
Odaily Planet Daily News Coldcard posted on X platform stating that the claim that "current firmware causes permanent bricking of Coldcard devices" is inaccurate. If a device experiences a TRNG failure, users only need to perform a power-off and restart operation, that is, completely remove all power sources and then restart the device. This failure state is volatile and will not be written to the device's flash memory. The system handles it in a "safe failure" manner and will not cause permanent damage to the device. Coldcard reminds users to continue handling related risks according to previous safety recommendations and stated that a subsequent fix is being implemented.
