Trump Endorses Warsh While Criticizing Fed Committee, FOMC Sees Rare Policy Divergence in Nearly 50 Years

2026-07-30 02:14

Odaily Planet Daily News U.S. President Trump stated that Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh supports lower interest rates but has been unable to push for rate cuts due to restrictions from a "politicized committee."

This week, the FOMC meeting voted 9 to 3 to keep interest rates unchanged, with three members openly supporting a 25 basis point rate hike. This marks the first time since 2016 that there have been three dissenting votes in the same direction, and it represents a rare large-scale internal policy disagreement during the early tenure of a new Fed chairman in nearly 50 years.

After the meeting, Warsh stated that if inflation remains persistently high and the job market stays robust, rate hikes could still be a policy option in the future. He emphasized that the Fed will not adjust policy based on market expectations.

The market currently widely views the September meeting as a key window to observe whether the Fed will reconsider rate hikes.
