Google delays release of Gemini 3.5 Pro, Meta and OpenAI employees playfully tease
Odaily reports that Google has recently launched three faster and cheaper AI models, but its next-generation frontier model, Gemini 3.5 Pro, remains unreleased. Meta's Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang posted on X, commenting on Meta's Spark model ranking higher than the models Google released this week, saying "gemini who?"
OpenAI technical staff member Thibault Sottiaux also responded on X to Google employee Logan Kilpatrick's post about Gemini 4 having started pre-training, saying "hope it finishes one day." Google has not commented on this.
Raymond James analyst Josh Beck stated that the delay of Gemini 3.5 Pro has shifted external perception from leading to lagging. Moor Insights & Strategy analyst Anshel Sag said it's "a bit strange" for Google to promote Gemini 4 before delivering Gemini 3.5 Pro.
