Pardon scope expands to crypto sector, BitMEX parent company's $100 million fine waived

2026-07-21 16:14
Odaily News: During his second term, Trump set a precedent in modern American history by pardoning corporate entities, having granted pardons to 9 companies to date, including HDR Global Trading, the parent company of crypto exchange BitMEX. The company faced a $100 million fine for violating anti-money laundering regulations. Trump signed a pardon on March 27, 2025, absolving four former executives, including co-founder Arthur Hayes, as well as the company itself, coinciding with the same week the fine was due for payment. Reports indicate that the idea of pardoning companies was first proposed in early 2025, when BitMEX's parent company was quietly seeking clemency. Some White House officials cited the precedent of King Charles II of England pardoning a corporation over 300 years ago as justification.
