Sovright launches Argos wallet recovery tool to help early Zcash users recover "stuck" funds
Odaily Odaily reports that Sovright (the non-profit successor organization formerly related to Electric Coin Company for Zcash R&D) has officially released a wallet recovery tool named "Argos," designed to help early Zcash users recover funds that became "stuck" after the old ZEC Wallet Lite was discontinued in 2022.
Michelle Lai, Chair of the Sovright Executive Board, stated that Argos can recover affected assets if users still hold the old wallet's seed phrase. However, since it only involves specific shielded addresses, the exact scale of affected users cannot be accurately determined, though it is estimated to be a "significant amount," primarily concentrated among early long-term holders. She described this issue as a long-standing "technical pit" in the community that, while not conspicuous, has continuously eroded user trust.
Sovright currently consists of only three core members, all from the former Bootstrap system. The team is also testing a private Zcash mining pool to reduce hashrate concentration and improve network decentralization. The organization's predecessor underwent a major governance restructuring, with Electric Coin Company employees leaving en masse to form a new entity, Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL), which has received support from institutions like Paradigm and a16z to focus on developing Zcash-related products.
Sovright emphasized that there is no adversarial relationship with ZODL and stated it will continue to focus on solving "long-standing legacy issues" within the Zcash ecosystem, including key pain points such as wallet usability and infrastructure stability. (The Block)
