TON rebrands its native token as Gram, CEO says network is "returning to its roots"

Odaily Odaily Telegram CEO Pavel Durov stated that the native token of The Open Network (TON) will be renamed to Gram, reverting to the original name from the project's early whitepaper. TON will remain the name of the blockchain network, while Gram will become the name of its native currency.

Durov said this renaming is the fourth step in a seven-step "Make TON Great Again" plan. The entire transition is expected to take approximately three weeks, and the remaining three initiatives have yet to be disclosed.

The previously announced steps include a TON network upgrade, improved transaction settlement speed, significantly reduced fees, and Telegram's plan to replace the TON Foundation as the ecosystem's primary manager and largest validator.
