Russian Full-Scale Crypto Trading Still Awaits Central Bank Details; Essential Documents Expected by Early December

2026-09-03 05:23

Odaily News: Russia's Digital Currency and Digital Rights Law, which took effect on September 1, has so far only been partially implemented, primarily covering cross-border transfers for foreign trade. Due to numerous critical details yet to be finalized, full-scale crypto trading within Russia remains unavailable at this time. The Central Bank of Russia stated that all necessary documents are expected to be ready by early December. Market participants noted that relevant infrastructure is largely in place and merely requires adjustments in line with the new requirements. Sberbank plans to complete the construction of its digital custodian facility by December 1, while Finam is expected to begin offering services in early 2027. Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina stated that transferring crypto assets abroad is not restricted, but investors should be aware that operations conducted outside Russia are not protected by Russian law.
