Australian central bank seeks public consultation on role of tokenised market settlement services
According to Odaily, the Reserve Bank of Australia has announced that it has initiated a public consultation to explore the role of the Reserve Bank Information and Transfer System (RITS) in settlement operations within the tokenised ecosystem. This consultation aims to gather feedback from various stakeholders on how relevant services can support the development of Australia's tokenised asset market and private money, while safeguarding financial security, operational efficiency, and financial stability. The consultation deadline is October 30. The Reserve Bank of Australia also noted that a joint report with the Treasury concluded that Australia's retail payment system adequately serves households and businesses, and that there is currently no sufficient public interest rationale for issuing a retail central bank digital currency.
