A certain address poisoning attack caused a user to lose $100,000 USDT, and the attacker has exchanged it for ETH

About 66 days ago, the attacker carried out "address poisoning" against the victim's wallet, creating a malicious address record similar to a normally interacted address by sending transactions. Today, the victim failed to fully verify the complete wallet address and mistakenly transferred funds to the attacker's address.

After the incident, in order to avoid potential freezing risks, the attacker exchanged the stolen USDT for ETH and currently holds approximately 52.8 ETH in the wallet.

Cyvers reminds users to always fully verify wallet addresses when making on-chain transfers, and to avoid relying solely on address records in transaction history. At the same time, security agencies recommend using AI-based on-chain security tools to detect abnormal transaction behavior in real time, thereby reducing risks such as address poisoning and phishing attacks. Address poisoning attacks have become one of the common fraud methods in the crypto asset space in recent years. Attackers typically exploit users' habit of copying addresses from historical transaction records, inducing users to mistakenly transfer assets by forging similar addresses.
