Serenity criticizes Barron's optical communications coverage: questions media's lack of industry research capability

Odaily Planet Daily News "White Beard Stock God" Serenity posted on X platform, satirizing Barron's recent coverage of optical communications supply chain companies (such as AAOI), questioning traditional financial media's lack of professional background when analyzing the tech industry.

Serenity stated that Barron's wanted to write articles about optical supply chain companies, but considered the related research "too simple," even claiming it did not require professional engineering background. Subsequently, the media outlet hired a newcomer who previously came from a nonprofit communications consulting field.

According to Serenity's description, on the newcomer's first day on the job, they were required to conduct model analyses on company revenue growth, margin forecasts, continuous wave (CW) laser supply bottlenecks, and internal capacity, but the newcomer said they "did not understand this content" and believed the relevant stock "looked like a memestock."

Serenity further mocked that Barron's might next use "memestock" as the topic of its following report, quipping, "If you don't even understand it yourself, why write about it."

These remarks reflect the recent research competition surrounding hot investment areas such as AI infrastructure, optical communications, and computing supply chains. As AI data center construction drives attention to industry chains including optical modules and lasers, some investors believe traditional financial media need a deeper understanding of technology and supply chain logic, rather than relying solely on market sentiment for reporting.
