Officials familiar with the negotiations said the potential agreement is intended to serve as an interim solution to the dispute between the US and Iran over shipping issues in the Strait of Hormuz. They said the agreement is related to a deal reached between the US and Iran in June this year aimed at ending the conflict and reopening the strait, but that deal ultimately did not hold.
