Oman: Ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz may be required to pay fees
Odaily Odaily Planet Daily News According to sources, Oman has informed European officials that the Strait of Hormuz cannot return to its pre-war state and that transiting ships may need to pay certain fees. Sources stated that Omani officials said they would always comply with international maritime law, but added that fees may arise from services related to cleaning up pollution in the strait or ship navigation. It is currently unclear whether Oman indicated that all these fees are mandatory.
Sources said Oman is analyzing the fee systems used by various global chokepoints, including the Strait of Malacca in Asia, where there are currently no mandatory shipping fees. Meanwhile, the United States, Europe, and Oman's Gulf neighbors are increasingly concerned that Oman may establish a fee system for the Strait of Hormuz jointly with Iran. (Jinshi)
