SBF, jailhouse interview discusses AI and space industry: Regrets missing out on the AI opportunity, highly praises Musk

2026-06-08 13:34

Odaily Planet Daily News Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the founder of FTX who was sentenced to 25 years in prison, said in an interview from federal prison that he "absolutely" hopes for a presidential pardon from the U.S. President but declined to reveal whether his family is lobbying the White House for it.

SBF was sentenced to 25 years in prison in March 2024 for the FTX collapse case, after a jury found him guilty on seven counts including wire fraud and conspiracy. The court determined that FTX customers lost approximately $8 billion, equity investors lost $1.7 billion, and Alameda Research lenders lost $1.3 billion.

However, SBF once again denied misappropriating user funds and claimed that as the crypto market recovers, FTX customers have now received approximately 170% compensation. He stated that FTX was "one of the very few platforms that was over-collateralized," arguing that the criminal prosecution and long prison sentence were unreasonable.

Additionally, SBF discussed the development of artificial intelligence and the space industry, saying he regrets missing the AI wave and spoke highly of Elon Musk's entrepreneurial abilities. He said SpaceX has huge growth potential and is one of the few companies capable of playing a key role in the space industry. (FOX Business)
