U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated last Friday that approximately $1 billion in Iranian crypto assets had been seized.
Odaily Planet Daily News Last week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview with Fox News that the United States has seized approximately $1 billion in Iranian crypto assets. Bessent stated that the operation is part of sanctions against the Iranian regime and its network of proxies, and the relevant funds have been frozen.
He said that before the U.S. Treasury Department intervened, the Iranian regime was siphoning off $400 million to $500 million per month, distributing the money to dozens of senior officials. "We are working with allies across Europe to seize various villas, houses, and properties," Bessent explained. "And this money was actually taken from the Iranian people." According to analysis by Bitcoin News, when Bessent first disclosed the figure in late April, it was "close to $500 million," but the latest figure as of May 29 has exceeded the $1 billion mark, indicating that law enforcement efforts are intensifying.
