Iran: Working to Finalize a Memorandum of Understanding, Negotiations Focus on Ending the War
Odaily Planet Daily News On the 23rd, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei said in an interview with Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting that the current focus of negotiations is to promote the end of the "imposed war," and that discussions on the nuclear issue are temporarily not in-depth. Iran and the US are working hard to finalize a memorandum of understanding. Baghaei said that the current stage of negotiations does not involve the nuclear issue or the specific details of corresponding sanctions relief, but Iran's demands for the lifting of sanctions, especially the release of frozen assets, have been clearly written into the text of the 14-point memorandum of understanding.
He stated that the reason Iran is not delving into the nuclear issue at this stage is because it believes the nuclear issue has twice served as a pretext for launching war against Iran. Currently, Iran is focusing on promoting an end to the war on "all fronts," including in Lebanon, and may enter negotiations on the nuclear issue in the next phase, perhaps 30 or 60 days later.
