US media: US intelligence shows Iran rapidly rebuilding military capabilities, posing a significant threat if bombing resumes

2026-05-21 07:20

Odaily Planet Daily reports, according to CNN, two sources familiar with US intelligence assessments say that Iran has restarted some drone production during the six-week ceasefire that began in early April, indicating that Iran is rapidly rebuilding certain military capabilities damaged by US and Israeli strikes.

Four sources say US intelligence indicates that the rebuilding of Iran's military is progressing much faster than initial estimates. The sources state that the reconstruction of Iran's military capabilities, including the replacement of missile positions, launchers, and production capacity for key weapons systems destroyed in the conflict, means that Iran would still pose a significant threat to regional allies if Trump resumes bombing operations. This also raises questions about the extent to which US and Israeli strikes can weaken Iran's military capabilities over the long term.

A US official revealed that while the timelines for restarting production of different weapons components vary, some US intelligence estimates suggest that Iran could fully rebuild its drone attack capability within six months at the earliest. "The Iranians have already surpassed all the timelines set by the intelligence community for rebuilding," the US official said. (Jin Shi)
