Iran terror victims seek court order to force Tether to transfer $344 million in frozen USDT

2026-05-15 09:45

Odaily Planet Daily News A group of plaintiffs holding US court judgments on Iranian terrorism filed a motion on Thursday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, asking the judge to force Tether to zero out a total of approximately 344.1 million USDT held in two wallet addresses linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which have been placed on the OFAC sanctions list, and reissue an equivalent amount of USDT to the plaintiffs' designated wallets.

The plaintiffs argue that Tether has the technical capacity and, under New York's turnover law and federal anti-terrorism enforcement regulations, has a corresponding legal obligation. They cite Tether's prior compliance with FBI seizure orders and a case in Ohio where token destruction and reissuance were completed. The total judgment amount the plaintiffs seek to enforce is approximately $2.42 billion, covering compensatory and punitive damages from multiple cases involving Iranian terrorism over more than two decades. Tether froze the relevant wallets on April 24 this year, the same day OFAC added them to the sanctions list. (The Block)
