Anthropic Reaches $13.7 Billion Compute Deal with Trump-Linked Rum Group
According to people familiar with the matter, Anthropic has signed a six-year, $13.7 billion computing agreement with Rum Group, a company with social media roots and longstanding ties to the Trump administration. The deal is the latest in a series of cloud computing agreements Anthropic has struck over the past year, with partners including major cloud providers such as Google, tech companies such as SpaceX, and smaller new cloud players such as Nscale, driven by surging demand for its Claude Code and Cowork products. North Korea is using remote IT workers from third countries such as Iran and Lebanon to infiltrate U.S. companies to obtain funds supporting its weapons programs. After the relevant personnel pass interviews, the positions are usually taken over by North Korean personnel.
The U.S. government and multiple foreign agencies issued alerts in July noting that North Korean IT workers seek contracts and send salaries back to North Korean organizations, while also posing insider threats to companies, involving data leaks, cryptocurrency theft, and theft of sensitive information.
Some third-country IT workers are recruited through LinkedIn, and some work part-time as "interview facilitators," earning $500 per month in cryptocurrency.
Data from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike shows that in 2025, cryptocurrency losses caused by North Korea-linked state hackers and threat actors exceeded $2 billion, up 51% year-over-year. South Korea's central bank estimates that North Korea's GDP grew 3.5% in 2025.

CLARITY Act to Face First Senate Procedural Vote, Warren Davidson Calls for Deletion of Section 305
Bitcoin News posted that the U.S. Senate will hold its first procedural vote on the CLARITY Act at 2:15 PM ET on Tuesday, with Senator Bernie Moreno urging colleagues to advance the bill and consider amendments thereafter. Representative Warren Davidson called for the deletion of Section 305 before the bill passes, saying the provision allows exchanges and stablecoin issuers to freeze suspicious transactions for 30 days, or extend to 180 days at the request of law enforcement, effectively granting them the authority to carry out "civil asset forfeiture."
The U.S. Department of Justice's Scam Center Strike Force, in an operation targeting Telegram cryptocurrency escrow trading platform Xinbi Guarantee, restricted approximately $52 million in fraud-related cryptocurrency in a single day, bringing the cumulative amount to approximately $938 million. Previously, cumulative frozen, seized, or recovered amounts had exceeded $580 million.
The U.S. Treasury Department said that Xinbi Guarantee has processed more than $24 billion in transactions since its establishment around 2022, involving digital assets and fiat currency, mainly serving Southeast Asian transactions. North Korean hackers and sanctioned entities are said to have used the platform, including Jin Bei Group and entities under Prince Group.
A U.S. federal court approved the seizure of the Telegram channel operated by Xinbi Guarantee on September 7. Law enforcement also seized two payment wallets totaling approximately $12 million and applied to freeze another 47 cryptocurrency wallets suspected of being used for money laundering or associated with fraud-related service providers.
The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added Xinbi Guarantee and its two supporting companies, Safew Technology and Anwen Technology, to its sanctions list on September 9. The U.S. Department of Justice also sent investigators to Madagascar to assist local law enforcement in cracking down on 13 fraud compounds operated by Chinese nationals and to process more than 3,200 electronic devices.
U.S. House Ways and Means Committee Set to Review Cryptocurrency Tax Rules on September 16
The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to review a series of digital asset tax legislation on September 16, moving crypto tax bills toward a full House vote. The review focuses on two core issues: when miners and stakers should pay taxes on newly created tokens, and whether wash sale rules applicable to stocks should cover digital assets.
The two key bills are the "Mining and Staking Tax Clarity Act" H.R. 9175 and the "Applying Existing Tax Anti-Abuse Rules to Digital Assets Act" H.R. 9172.
South Korea's National Assembly online petition system shows that a petition calling for a two-year delay in implementing the cryptocurrency tax has received 50,764 signatures, reaching the threshold for referral to the relevant standing committee for review. The South Korean government advocates full implementation of the tax starting January 2027, while the ruling People Power Party opposes it on grounds that relevant infrastructure is not yet adequate.
