**Editor's Note:** In the opinion section of last week's Crypto & Stock Market Gauge, we highlighted the rebound in crypto-related stocks. Over the past week, despite a slight pullback in the broader crypto market, crypto-related stocks continued their upward trend. This morning, at the US stock market close, crypto-related stocks saw broad gains, with Circle (CRCL) up 9.67%, BitMine (BMNR) up 6.55%, Coinbase (COIN) up 5.31%, SharpLink (SBET) up 5.24%, American Bitcoin (ABTC) up 4.94%, Gemini (GEMI) up 4.65%, and Strategy (MSTR) up 4.42%. In the short term, as the broader crypto market gradually stabilizes, the outlook for crypto-related stocks remains positive.
On the other hand, tensions have escalated again in the US-Iran situation, and major capital markets like those in Japan and South Korea continue to face liquidity and geopolitical challenges. Following South Korea's increase in capital thresholds and trading restrictions, leveraged trading funds previously concentrated in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have noticeably contracted: 8 products linked to SK Hynix saw net selling of approximately 1.2415 trillion KRW, while 8 products linked to Samsung Electronics saw net selling of about 531.6 billion KRW. According to data, South Korea's KOSPI index rose 3.4% cumulatively in August, slowly recovering from the "Bloody July." Lim Roy, a stock sales trader at Samsung Securities, stated that pension funds significantly bought KOSPI index constituents during the closing auction, with a focus on the tech sector. Japan, meanwhile, has spent a record $96.4 billion over the past month to support the yen after it previously fell to its lowest level in 40 years. This underscores the Japanese authorities' willingness to take increasingly assertive measures to prop up the yen. Data released by Japan's Ministry of Finance on Friday showed that the government intervened in the foreign exchange market with a total of ¥15.4 trillion between July 30 and August 26, setting a record for monthly intervention amounts.
On the US stock front, following Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's public statements last week, market bets on rate hikes have surged, and precious metals have pulled back sharply. Consequently, both JPMorgan and Citadel Securities have issued short-term warnings, advising investors to remain cautious ahead of the upcoming dense period of macroeconomic data releases and the Fed policy meeting, and to utilize options prices currently at yearly lows to strengthen downside hedging. Historical experience shows that September is often the worst month for US stocks. In 2026, an election year, with the stock market having performed strongly earlier, seasonal factors may shift. Veteran market commentator Michael Santoli stated that what truly warrants caution is that several key market indicators are in a "taut" state; once thresholds are breached, the market's character could change dramatically. Whether the US stock market can break the "September curse" remains uncertain.
