As the co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin’s every move has always attracted much attention, and his wallet address dynamics have also become a “reference” for crypto investors to pay attention to industry trends, sometimes even triggering market reactions and affecting cryptocurrency prices.
On October 18, Vitalik Buterin clarified on social platforms: If you see an article saying Vitalik sent *** ETH to an exchange, then it is not actually me who is selling. I I have made donations to certain charities, non-profits, or other projects, and these sales transactions are made by the donation recipient. Because they need to pay some fees. However, I have not sold ETH for personal gain since 2018 .
However, Vitalik Buterin did not disclose which charities, non-profit organizations or other projects are selling the ETH he donated, but Vitalik Buterin does have a charity of his own called Kanro (Vitalik Charity). In order to prevent the crypto community from misunderstanding that Vitalik Buterin used his charity to “cash out”, we found the wallet address of Kanro’s charity to find out.
How much money is there in Kanro (Vitalik Charity)? Ever sold ETH?
In June this year, Vitalik Buterin disclosed his charitable entity Kanro on social media to contribute to the fight against Covid-19 and other epidemics. At that time, he announced that he would invest 100 million in Covid-19 related research projects through the charitable entity. US dollars, and Kanro’s wallet address information was also disclosed.
Tracking data from on-chain data analysis platform Arkham shows that cryptocurrency worth $100 million was indeed transferred to the Kanro address about four months ago (this coincides with the time when Vitalik Buterin pledged a $100 million donation), as shown in the figure below , including:
About 90 million USDC
3.724 million MVRS
777 LKT
1000 MTV
According to the on-chain transaction records, Vitalik Buterin did transfer ETH to Kanro, but only 0.01 ETH, so it was probably for test verification or other purposes, and Kanro then transferred 0.01 ETH back to Vitalik Buterin.
However, just a week ago, there was an outflow of funds from Kanros wallet address, and more than 15 million USDC was transferred to the Gnosis Safe multi-signature wallet address starting with 0x f 20 through three transactions.
Subsequently, USDC was transferred to three addresses in two cryptocurrency exchanges, Coinbase and Gemini, as shown below:
Transfer to Coinbase (0x 572) 248,990 USDC
Transfer to Coinbase (0x 060) 249,990 USDC
Transfer to Gemini (0x f 67) 14.934 million USDC
Currently, the total value of the remaining crypto assets under the Kanro (Vitalik Charity) entity is approximately US$75 million, including approximately 74.567 million USDC, 1,000 MTV, and 3.724 million MVRS. However, the amount of ETH held within the charitable entity is shown as Zero, as shown below:
So technically, as Vitalik Buterin said, he “did not sell ETH for personal gain.”
How much ETH does Vitalik Buterin currently own?
Vitalik Buterin co-founded Ethereum in 2015. In October 2018, Vitalik Buterin disclosed his ETH holdings on social media. He stated that he did not hold 900,000 ETH as claimed by the outside world, and his personal net worth has also increased from It did not touch $1 billion, but it did own 0.9% of the total supply of ETH at that time. The total supply of ETH at that time was about 75 million, which meant that Vitalik Buterin personally held about 675,000 ETH.
According to Simon Cousaert, data director of blockchain media The Block, based on estimates from Vitalik Buterin’s public wallet address, he should hold about 250,000 ETH at this stage, which would be worth about $390 million based on the latest price. Simon Cousaert added that in the past few years, Vitalik Buterin sent approximately 205,000 ETH to the exchange through these public addresses, but it should be noted that Vitalik Buterin’s undisclosed wallet address should also contain ETH, or Sent to other counterparties.
According to the analysis of The Block Pro in the picture above, so far Vitalik Buterin has sent 30% of the total amount of ETH he holds - about 208,000 ETH to the exchange. According to him, these ETH are used for donations, etc. Purpose.
As the co-founder of Ethereum, although Vitalik Buterin holds a large amount of ETH, he should not choose to sell in a short period of time to cash out like the Rug Pull project team did. On the other hand, Vitalik Buterin’s role in the entire Ethereum ecosystem is gradually being “decentralized” because the development and innovation of Ethereum has begun to be jointly maintained by many developers, contributors, supporters and users in the community and promotion, so even if Vitalik Buterin sells off part of ETH from time to time, it will not have much impact on the long-term development of the Ethereum ecosystem.
