ETHShanghai 2023 was initiated by Mask Network and is an event dedicated to promoting the Ethereum network and encouraging more builders to join in building the Ethereum and Web3 communities. This ETHShanghai is jointly organized by core members such as Mask Network, Moonshot Commons, ChainIDE and THUBA Tsinghua Blockchain Association.
The entire event brought together nearly 600 developers, covering developers and builders from around the world, especially Asia. A total of 84 teams formed over two weeks, and their projects were created on Gitcoins hackathon platform Buidlbox.io.
The main track of this event is divided into five themes: ETH Infra Public Goods, Layer 2 On-Chain Gaming, Application, AI Blockchain, and Developer Tools, covering many important areas of blockchain technology. The track setting aims to deepen the understanding and application of the Ethereum network, combined with the new technological trends that are taking place, and together help promote the maturity and further development of the Web3 community.
In this hackathon, the projects in the two major tracks of AI Blockchain and Layer 2 On-Chain Gaming attracted particular attention. The combination of AI technology and blockchain is gradually showing its potential and application value; on the other hand, On-Chain Gaming is a new application trend in the blockchain field this year, and related projects are also showing an active trend.
After fierce competition,20 contestants eventually won. They have demonstrated outstanding technical strength and innovative ideas in the participating projects. We hope that these projects in each track will provide new thinking and inspiration for readers.
The following is an introduction to the winning projects:
Ethereum Infrastructure Public Goods main track
1st place IZAR
IZAR is a protocol that enables privacy-preserving interoperability between the Ethereum and Aleo ecosystems. IZAR is a groundbreaking privacy-preserving interoperability protocol that seamlessly connects the Ethereum and Aleo ecosystems. We provide comprehensive support for cross-chain communication of arbitrary messages in heterogeneous chains, open up liquidity between ecosystems, and use industry-leading zero-knowledge cryptography technology to achieve completely private cross-chain transactions. In addition, the protocol will introduce a new governance model (1,000 decentralized validators) and zkSnark multi-signature verification to solve the current centralization problem across the bridge and further improve the security and user trust of the cross-bridge.
Second place Lumi Finance
Lumi Finance is an investment platform focused on sustained wealth preservation. By using LUA as collateral, Lumi Finance offers loans with zero liquidation risk and negative interest rates, allowing borrowers to earn income on their debt. There is no liquidation risk on these loans as the total LUA debt will never exceed the token’s floor price (the guaranteed minimum value). LUA borrowers do not need to pay ongoing fees to liquidity providers that incur negative interest.
Third place ChainFood
To reduce food waste, blockchain comes first. ChainFood is the first Ethereum charity dApp to fight food waste by connecting users with nearby free food.
ChainFood is the first non-profit dApp (solving the food waste problem) in the Ethereum ecosystem. Users can obtain free food information, publish lists and verify their identity through the ERC address. Use FoodCoin tokens to incentivize users to receive or donate food. Layer 2 tokens can be airdropped through SBT obtained by users. The chain guarantees 100% transparency of public welfare funds.
Fourth place BitPoW
BitPoW, a product developed based on the first practical proof of work, looks forward to driving important progress in the field of blockchain consensus. With this innovation driven, it is theoretically possible for public chains to achieve decentralization beyond Bitcoin, avoid the existence of mining pools, and provide chain users with lower gas costs. The BitPoW team is also committed to ensuring that this advancement does not hinder the security of the blockchain, nor is it intended to trigger a mining arms race or unnecessary energy consumption.
Layer 2 On-Chain Gaming Main Track
First place Cellula
Cellula is a completely chain-based artificial life simulation game. Players explore, cultivate, evolve and collect unique life forms in the game.
In this game, Conways rules of the game of life are treated as the genetic code of life forms, determining their shape and vitality. Using the games production station, players can freely create various genetic sequences and breed their own on-chain life forms. These life forms have unique appearances and properties and display a variety of life forms.
Second place GasLockR (GasSubscribe team)
Based on Gass real-time pricing model, GasLockR, as an on-chain infrastructure, also provides derivative services such as Gas insurance and Gas Fee subscriptions. GasLockR uses the ZK coprocessor to obtain historical Gas prices and provides derivatives with real-time and verifiable pricing models to hedge the risk of Gas price fluctuations. As on-chain infrastructure, it can build protocols and services to improve issues such as blockchain reliability and user experience. We came up with the term GasFi and made GasLockR the first trustless GasFi derivatives protocol. With GasLockR, other wallets or services such as account abstraction (ERC-4337) will be able to provide SLAs to their users, thereby making users and organizations dependent on the blockchain ecosystem. Based on GasLockR, the services provided include: tradable Gas insurance, which provides premiums for future Gas prices; and Gas Fee subscription, where users can use ERC 20 tokens or legal currency to subscribe to Dapps interactive operations based on the number of transactions or time periods.
Third placeAge of Navigation
This is a full-chain game that combines elements of real-time strategy, looters, and dark forest survival. The game map is a piece of Satosea covered by the fog of war, and mimcHash is used to encrypt the coordinates. Various resources, artifacts and other players are hidden under the fog. Anyone can freely explore Satosea. The game uses MUD as the engine to store the information of the Satosea scene in the smart contract on the chain. As the ship sails and players calculate the corresponding parameters on the contract, the fog of war will be revealed. Players use the PoW algorithm to mine resources on the map or pick up artifacts. Resources will become tokens for in-game transactions and pledges, while artifacts can enhance various game performances. Everyone can attack each other and plunder property. When players perform actions, such as mining resources or attacking, their location is temporarily exposed to everyone. Therefore, you need to hide your traces and obtain other peoples information. It contains a wealth of strategies and gameplay.
Fourth Autochessia
Autochessia is an auto-chess game but runs entirely on the blockchain, which means that not only all game states are read and stored from blockchain storage, but all game-related processes are processed through intelligent Contract implementation.
We believe that full-chain games will bring the next generation of UGC models, so we made this game and tried to make it scalable.
In order to enable the game to run on the chain, we implemented JPS (jump point search) in Solidity, designed the minimum interval of the game, and introduced VRF as a true random number.
Applications main track
No. 1 Lumiterra
Lumiterra is a multiplayer online, open-world adventure game. In this vast world, you can fight with different players, plant crops, capture monsters, create different equipment and weapons, and explore novel things!
At the same time, Lumiterra is not just a fun game. In the past, blockchain games mixed different types of users, resulting in various conflicts of interest and Ponzi situations. We innovatively put DeFi users, GameFi users (gold players) and gamers into a coexistence system. Each type of user can pursue their own needs. By meeting these needs and the commodity economic mechanism in the overall game, We build a healthy economic system that is composed of three enhanced flywheels as a whole.
Second placeNon Fungible Time
This is an experimental Web3 protocol that is ahead of its time, giving every passing day the power of a time capsule. Time is stamped by allowing users to publish and mint each day as an NFT. Preserving the profound moments and treasured memories that weave our lives together.
Third place Soulcial
Soulcial is a self-generated social metaverse based on on-chain behavior and real-world data. Relying on the self-developed social activity evaluation model, users can create personalized social assets with AI, bind their own social scores, and carry out social activities driven by AI algorithms, thereby building a unique soul social metaverse. The project can help users continue to accumulate their own decentralized social graph while finding their soul mates.
Fourth PeopleEquity
EquitySwap pioneered a new market capitalization growth model, allowing project prices to always have better liquidity as they rise. At the same time, it can reduce impermanent loss and transaction slippage, and cooperate with the precise incentive mechanism to open the era of DEX rebate, which can gradually replace CEX and realize the comprehensive decentralization of transactions.
AI Blockchain Main Track
2nd Megaaxis
We have created a prompt market based on the Web3 token economy on a decentralized chain. By tokenizing prompts, the value of the potential market can be realized. The market created by MEGAxis encourages engineers to earn tokens by creating and selling high-quality prompts. The better their prompts perform, the more valuable their tokens are. MEGAxis can also use the Web3 token economy to create a community around the platform. For example, users who hold tokens can be given the right to vote on platform decisions, voting for and against prompts.
Third Metavoice
Metavoice is a MetaMask wallet product with voice functionality, specially designed to empower people with visual impairments. We recognize a significant problem faced by individuals with limited or no vision - complex interface navigation and transaction management is a daunting task for them.
