Odaily reports that the nonfarm payroll data further reinforced the view that momentum in the U.S. job market is cooling. According to CME's "FedWatch" tool, traders now expect an 83% probability that the Federal Reserve will keep rates unchanged at its October meeting, up from 72% before the jobs report was released; the probability of a rate hike has dropped from 28% to 17%. Rate expectations have also cooled. Currently, federal funds rate futures pricing shows that the market expects the Fed to raise rates by a cumulative total of about 22.2 basis points through the end of 2026, down from 25.5 basis points before the data was released.
Odaily reports: Brian Jacobsen, Chief Economic Strategist at Annex Wealth Management, stated that the U.S. job market is not as strong as initially believed. July's data was revised down to negative growth, and while August saw a decent rebound, that momentum came to an abrupt halt in September, with only 29,000 jobs added. The employment diffusion index fell back below 50. Fed Chair Warsh had previously been concerned about the breadth of inflation, but now he will have to consider the lack of breadth in the job market. This data supports pausing rate hikes in October. (Jinshi)
Odaily News: Spartan Capital Securities chief market economist Peter Cardillo said that nonfarm payrolls came in below expectations but still indicate a growing job market. Wages also showed no inflationary pressure, which is a positive factor. The rise in the unemployment rate may be due to an increase in the labor force participation rate. Overall, this report is favorable for the market. It may help ease the upward momentum in yields and also suggests the Fed does not need to worry about wage inflation. Combined with the lower-than-expected PCE price index released a few days ago, this means the Fed is very likely to continue holding steady at its October meeting. (Jinshi)

Odaily News: After the release of the U.S. nonfarm payrolls report, market traders reduced their bets on a Federal Reserve rate hike in October. Swap contracts tied to Fed meeting dates show that the market no longer fully prices in a complete rate hike this year.
Mohamed El-Erian, Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz, said the U.S. employment data came in surprisingly: only 29,000 jobs were added in September, the unemployment rate rose to 4.2%, and hourly earnings grew just 0.1% month-over-month. In addition, the July and August figures were revised down by about 60,000 jobs. On the supply side, the labor force participation rate rose to 61.8%, which is a more positive development. Overall, this will further reinforce the impact of recent Fed officials' remarks, namely that market expectations for a Fed rate hike in October are cooling.
