FOMO Web App Hit by Bookmark Phishing Attack, Attackers Hijack Accounts and Steal Crypto Assets

Odaily News: According to monitoring by SlowMist founder Cos, a bookmark phishing attack targeting the FOMO web app is emerging. Such phishing pages trick users into completing a fake CAPTCHA verification, dragging malicious JavaScript code into the browser's bookmarks and saving it as a bookmark. After the user then clicks on that bookmark 2 to 3 times, their previously logged-in FOMO account will be hijacked by the attacker, and the crypto assets in the account will be immediately stolen.

Vitalik Buterin: AI May Weaken Cryptography Within Two Years and Put ECDSA at Risk

Odaily News: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on X that AI-accelerated mathematics research could pose new security threats to existing cryptographic systems, especially lattice-based cryptographic schemes, including ML-DSA and fully homomorphic encryption (FHE). He believes that AI progress in mathematics over the next two years could significantly weaken the practical security of lattice cryptography, and ECDSA may also face the risk of being broken sooner than expected.

Vitalik pointed out that over the past year, Ethereum's Lean roadmap has been gradually shifting toward pure hash-based cryptographic schemes, avoiding the use of lattice-based signatures and related zero-knowledge proof structures. He suggested prioritizing hash-based cryptography where feasible and adopting more conservative security parameters for lattice cryptography; privacy protocols should try to avoid storing encrypted information directly on-chain, and multisig wallets should prioritize off-chain signature confirmation.

In addition, Vitalik suggested that users, when operationally convenient, store funds in addresses that have not yet initiated transactions to reduce potential risk, but he does not recommend that users immediately migrate assets on a large scale. He emphasized that migration operations themselves also carry risks, and his own losses caused by migration mistakes even exceeded the losses brought by previous hacker attacks.

Fed September Meeting Minutes: Most Officials Support Another Rate Hike This Year, but October Rate Hike Expectations Cool

Odaily: The minutes of the Federal Reserve's September meeting show that all 19 officials supported a 25 basis point rate hike, and most believed that further policy tightening was still necessary before the end of the year. However, based on policy statements after the meeting concluded, the Fed was not in a hurry to act again in October.

Influenced by Fed officials' recent cautious remarks, the market-implied probability of a 25 basis point rate hike in October has dropped from about 70% previously to 20%. In addition, the meeting minutes show that some officials believed rising long-term U.S. Treasury yields had already imposed certain constraints on the economy, and a few officials suggested improving policy tools in advance to address potential pressure in the Treasury market, but there is currently no clear intervention plan. US media: US military has been ordered to prepare for renewed strikes on Iran

Odaily reports: US officials stated that the Pentagon instructed US Central Command several days ago to prepare for the resumption of large-scale combat operations against Iran. The directive did not set a specific strike date, and Trump has not yet made a final decision. However, sources from the US and Israel say the strikes could occur before the US midterm elections (November 3), or even before Israel's general election, which is held one week earlier than the midterms. The sources noted that if large-scale combat operations resume, heavy bombing of Iran's energy, infrastructure, and nuclear facilities is expected. A Pentagon official revealed that the Department of Defense's role is to develop and present military options to the president. A White House official said Trump can take any action at any time. The report states that if large-scale combat operations resume, they would likely be conducted in coordination between the US and Israel, with Israeli forces participating. Two Israeli officials said Iran has been driven to desperation and paranoia, which could lead it to launch a preemptive strike. (AXIOS)
