Lee Jae-myung: Calls for Establishing a Cross-Government Cybersecurity Agency to Respond to Crypto Asset Theft Incidents

Odaily Report: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung mentioned at a State Council meeting on November 3 the recent multibillion-dollar crypto asset theft incident suffered by Binance, and called for the establishment of a cross-government cybersecurity coordination agency to oversee security protection efforts across both the public and private sectors. Lee Jae-myung stated that AI is making hacker attack techniques increasingly sophisticated, and the existing security system, which focuses primarily on post-incident inspection and response, has shown its limitations, making it necessary to establish proactive prevention mechanisms. South Korea's National Intelligence Service has currently launched emergency security inspections of more than 2,100 central and local government departments and public institutions.
