DFINITY Founder Accuses NEAR Intents of Using Its Proprietary Cryptography
Odaily reports: DFINITY founder Dom posted on X stating that further investigation revealed that a key component used by NEAR Intents involves DFINITY's proprietary technology, and accused NEAR of unauthorized use of technology results licensed exclusively for the Internet Computer. Dom stated that the technology in question involves the threshold ECDSA algorithm used for cross-chain asset custody and transaction signing, which can increase signing speed to approximately 3 times that of other solutions; he also alleged that NEAR deployed the technology on 8 servers, failing to achieve the decentralization and security it advertises.
Dom also stated that GitHub records show NEAR has recently been attempting to downgrade the algorithm to a solution approximately 3 times slower, and believes this move may be related to its concerns about the use of the technology. He stated that the matter involves potential legal liability, believes that DFINITY and the ICP community have been harmed as a result, and hopes both parties can resolve the dispute. The above content currently constitutes unilateral accusations by the DFINITY founder, and whether the use of the technology constitutes infringement, as well as whether NEAR has the security and decentralization issues alleged, remains to be further verified.
