About $30 Trillion in Underlying Assets: DTCC Tokenization Service Initially Supports 25 Securities

Odaily reports that DTCC's tokenization service has initially made available 25 tokenizable securities, with the underlying assets being DTC-custodied securities worth approximately $30 trillion. The tokens maintain a 1:1 correspondence with the original securities, use the same CUSIP, and carry rights and investor protections identical to book-entry securities, with the official ledger records still held by DTC. Transfers between registered DTC wallets can be made 24/7 on a peer-to-peer basis, and the tokens have compliance-based transfer restrictions. Interest payments and maturity services for U.S. Treasury securities will be conducted on-chain, with funds paid in fiat currency to participants' traditional accounts.

The initially supported assets include Russell 1000 constituent stocks, select ETFs, and U.S. Treasury securities; the first networks to go live are Canton Network's CIP-56 and DTCC's private Besu network's ERC-20. Stellar's SEP-41 and Circle's Arc ERC-20 are expected to be integrated in 2027. The subsequent roadmap includes expanding the scope of tokenizable securities, adding control features such as single sign-on and maker-checker, extending corporate actions services for stocks and ETFs, consolidating share records between book-entry and on-chain holdings, and supporting on-chain net settlement, collateral, and digital cash, while gradually expanding the scope of eligible DTC participants.
