France Proposes Up to 31.4% Tax on Bitcoin-to-Stablecoin Conversions; Residents Moving Abroad with Over €800,000 in Crypto Assets May Face Tax on Unrealized Gains
Odaily: According to a post by Bitcoin News on X, the French National Assembly's Finance Committee has approved a proposal to impose a tax of up to 31.4% on Bitcoin-to-stablecoin conversions, applicable even when not converted into fiat currency. Residents moving abroad with crypto assets exceeding €800,000 may face an exit tax on unrealized crypto gains.
The relevant amendment was withdrawn after the committee rejected the budget revenue section and still needs to be reintroduced during the full debate in the National Assembly. The proposal has not yet become law, and if passed, the new rules would take effect on January 1, 2027.
