Macquarie: Accelerating US September CPI Unlikely to Prompt a Fed Rate Hike in October

Odaily reports: Thierry Wizman, Macquarie Group's Global Strategist for Foreign Exchange and Rates, said in a report that the upcoming US September CPI, due to be released on Wednesday, is expected to accelerate but is unlikely to prompt the Federal Reserve to raise rates in October. Wizman said, "We believe this report will not change the Fed's decision on whether to raise rates later this month." He noted that several Fed officials have previously signaled a preference for a "rate hike every other meeting" pace rather than consecutive meeting increases.

A Wall Street Journal survey shows analysts expect the US September headline CPI year-over-year growth rate to rise from 3.4% in August to 3.6%. Current market pricing indicates about a 19% probability that the Fed will raise rates at its October 28 meeting. (Jinshi)
