South Korea plans to expand securities tokenization to stocks, bonds, and funds, with related regulations scheduled to take effect in February 2027

Odaily reports: South Korea's Financial Services Commission has announced companion amendments to the Electronic Securities Act and the Capital Markets Act related to securities tokenization. The public comment period will end on November 11, with implementation planned to align with the law's effective date of February 4, 2027.

The amendments propose expanding the scope of tokenization to traditional securities such as stocks, bonds, and funds, adopting a phased opening approach. The first phase will cover privately placed money market funds for institutional investors, privately placed bonds, trust-form unlisted stocks, and publicly offered fractionalized investment securities.

Publicly offered bonds and funds for retail investors will be gradually opened after assessing initial market operations and demand. (EToday)
