U.S. Congressman Proposes Ban on Candidates Betting on Their Own Election Results, but Bill Cannot Be Considered Before the 2026 Midterms

Odaily: U.S. Congressman Don Davis of North Carolina has introduced the "Ban on Betting on Your Own Election Act," which would prohibit federal election candidates, their campaign teams, and their spouses and children from buying, selling, or holding political event contracts related to their own elections. Violators would face a civil penalty of up to $10,000 per violation, or forfeiture of three times their potential profits. Because the U.S. Congress is currently in recess until after the November midterm elections, the bill cannot be considered before the 2026 midterm elections.
