ThorChain: Network Halt Was an Emergency Security Mechanism, Not a Selective Freeze of Specific Funds

Odaily reports: According to ThorChain monitoring, the network halt was an emergency security mechanism designed to protect the protocol's safety, not a selective freeze targeting specific funds, nor an individual swap targeting any person. During the security incident in May 2026, $10.7 million was stolen from liquidity pools. At the time, the attacker's address was not blacklisted, so transactions could still be conducted on THORChain. THORChain is a permissionless blockchain platform designed with the intention of not performing any censorship. Recently, THORChain has repeatedly been used by hackers as a conduit for money laundering, sparking controversy, but it still refuses to block transactions on the grounds of decentralization and permissionlessness.
