Iran: Hormuz Strait May Open a New Passage

2026-09-13 10:51

Odaily News: Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi said in a media interview today (September 13) that the meeting to be held in Oman on September 14 will focus on a new maritime passage within the Strait of Hormuz. Iran will then introduce to participating countries the details of the relevant agreement reached between Iran and Oman and the roadmap for the new passage. Araghchi stressed that the agreement between Iran and Oman does not mean the Strait of Hormuz will reopen. The prerequisite for Iran to reopen the strait is that the United States fulfills its commitments under the "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding."

Iran believes that the responsibility for maintaining regional security and stability should be borne entirely by regional countries. The Iranian side hopes that this dialogue can create conditions for regional countries to hold consultations on issues of common concern in the future. (CCTV International News)
