Trump again urges the Fed to cut interest rates, claiming U.S. GDP could soar by 20%

2026-09-01 00:10

Odaily News: Trump stated that U.S. economic growth could reach 14%, 15%, or even 20%, and argued that even achieving such rapid growth should not be a reason to raise interest rates. He also demanded that the U.S. have the "lowest interest rates in the world." Since World War II, U.S. GDP growth has hit 20% only once, and that occurred during the special rebound period following the pandemic.

Trump believes that even if the economy truly achieves such rapid growth, it should not serve as a justification for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. "The success of growth will not trigger inflation," he said during an event in the Oval Office announcing an agreement to lower prescription drug prices. Trump continues to view faster economic growth as a reason to support rate cuts. When responding to a reporter's question about the possibility of the Fed raising rates, he said: "We should have the lowest interest rates in the world."
