贝森特:预计日本央行将在货币政策方面“做正确的事”

2026-08-31 01:20

Odaily Planet Daily News: U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent said he expects Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda to "do the right thing" on monetary policy. When asked whether the Bank of Japan should consider consecutive rate hikes in response to the yen's weakness, Bessent said: "I'm not going to tell them what to do. What I would say is that I do think we may have reached the end of Abenomics. It was a policy designed to promote reflation."

Bessent is expected to meet with Ueda on Monday on the sidelines of the two-day Group of 20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. His remarks come as the yen weakened past 160 against the U.S. dollar, the first time since Japan intervened in the currency market a month ago to support the yen. The United States also participated in the intervention, marking the first coordinated action between the two countries to support the yen since 1998. (Jin Shi)
