analysis: Bitcoin's August gains exceed 30%, but trading volume remains near 3-year lows

2026-08-31 00:34

Odaily News - Darkfost posted on X, stating that despite Bitcoin's August gain of over 30%, trading volume across exchanges remains weak, consistent with the trend seen in July. Relevant trading volume is at its lowest level since September 2023, approaching levels not seen in nearly three years, highlighting a notable disconnect between price performance and actual market activity.

Compared with trading volume at the top of the Bitcoin market in October 2025, the data shows a clear difference. Binance spot trading volume still ranks first, but has fallen from $198 billion to $44 billion—though this figure is $1.6 billion higher than in July, indicating early signs of stabilization. Gate's trading volume dropped from $53.4 billion to $14 billion, while Bybit declined from $41.2 billion to $17.4 billion. On average, trading volume across these platforms fell by approximately 70%.

That said, August trading volume showed a degree of stability, remaining relatively close to July levels. If BTC price gains are accompanied by a rebound in trading volume going forward, this could serve as an important signal for the start of a new upward cycle.
