SK Hynix CEO: Memory chip shortage to persist until 2030

2026-08-30 01:55

Odaily News - SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung stated that the global memory chip shortage is expected to persist until the end of 2030, with a low risk of supply glut, as memory chips are no longer "merely standardized commodities" in the AI era. Despite market concerns over an AI investment bubble, he said he "sees no" signs of supply glut risk or a potential memory downcycle, as demand from AI customers remains robust.

"If we cross the AI peak or face another downcycle in the future, challenges could arise. However, I believe the next downcycle will differ from the downturns we have experienced over the past few decades. Even if a downcycle occurs, I expect it will not be a sharp decline, but rather a slow drop in demand, possibly even stabilizing." (Jin Shi)
