Michael Burry's Latest Trades: Closes Shorts on Tesla and Applied Materials, Adds to Nasdaq Put Bets

2026-08-14 14:10

Odaily News Michael Burry, the inspiration for "The Big Short," has disclosed his latest portfolio. On the long side, positions are concentrated in Adobe, MercadoLibre, Zoetis, JD.com, among others, with each position accounting for approximately 8%; Lululemon and PayPal each account for roughly 7%; Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Sprouts each represent about 5%.

On the short side, Burry currently holds short positions in the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX), Micron Technology, Nebius, Nvidia, Oracle, Palantir, and Caterpillar, while also holding put options on the Invesco QQQ Trust, comprising about 6% of the portfolio.

In terms of positioning changes, Burry has completely closed out his short positions in Tesla and Applied Materials, noting that both trades were profitable; he has also sold all his SOXX puts and instead established a larger put position on QQQ. Additionally, he reduced his Caterpillar short and increased his Micron short, with cash holdings raised to 12%.

Overall, his shorting focus has shifted from betting purely on a decline in the semiconductor sector to betting on a downturn in the broader Nasdaq market.
